This is a collection of ten easy pieces for cello (or viola) and piano consisting of a limited range of note-values. The first two pieces use only open strings. As the pieces progress additional fingers are added. There is no need to study these pieces in numerical order. Some cello teachers prefer to teach the note F sharp (3rd finger on the D string) before F natural, largely because it is easier to play in tune. The piano parts have also been kept very simple in the hope that they can be played by another student.
There are also MP3 files of the piano accompaniments, so that in the absence of a pianist, the soloist could play along with them. These recorded piano parts could be copied to a CD, which could of course be played on a portable CD player. Much easier than humping a piano around! By the way, don't try to print out the preview of the music - it's just a small low-quality photo file to give you an idea of what the music looks like. To download the scores containing piano and cello (or viola) part, click on "Score". To download the solo part, click on "Cello part" or "Viola part" as required.
Feel free to download as many pieces as you want, but please read the information in the "About" menu above.

All the parts have been converted into high quality Adobe Acrobat
files that you can print out. This is a free application and you can
download your own FREE copy of the software by clicking here.
Now you download a full-colour cover page absolutely FREE, so that you make
a professional-looking album.
Just print out all the pieces, with the pages back to back, then print out the cover on A4 photo paper. Click here to download the cover page. It is a high quality pdf file, so it may take a few minutes to download. Take the music pages and the cover to a local printing shop to have a spiral binder fitted (like the one shown above). They are very cheap and help to keep you music flat. If you want, you can get the shop to put a transparent film over the cover to keep it clean. Make sure you have all the pages in the correct order before binding!

About This Photo:
The picture was taken at the weir in Marlow, when it was bathed in late afternoon winter light. Marlow is a small old town in the county of Buckinghamshire on the River Thames. In the background you can see Marlow's parish church of All Saints which dates from 1832-5. It started life as a flat roofed nave with a modest tower and spire but the steeply pitched roof was added in 1889 and the impressive high tower and spire added in 1898-90. |
